Having performed liposuction for over twenty years and fat transfer to the face and body for over 10 years, the progression of transplanting a patient’s own fat cells to the breast is a fairly new technique, but no different than what Dr. Dobson has performed for years. The key to a good result is the surgeons experience and his technique. Dr. Dobson believes the surgeon must handle the cells with the utmost of care for the transplant to take.
Fat transplant consist of harvesting fat from one part of your body utilizing a small syringe. Then, carefully re-injecting these harvested cells into your breasts. There are many advantages of utilizing your own fat cells versus implants.

Fat transplant to the breasts can take from four to six hours. The fragile fat cells must be harvested slowly and gently. The fat is then placed into the breast not only so that it will create as aesthetic, natural appearance, but also so that the newly transplanted fat has a chance to survive.
As with any breast procedure, calcifications and lumps can occur. Patients will need to continue their breast exams and annual mammograms. No evidence has been found that shows that fat grafting to the breast is less safe than any other breast augmentation procedure. Studies have begun over the last few years to study fat transplant to the breast.
Obviously, surgeons with extensive experience in grafting large volumes of fat to the body are most likely to obtain the best results.
