The Number One Solution for Permanent Removal of Fat Cells!
Today’s liposuction brings a new dimension to body contouring surgery. Dr. Dobson has been performing liposuction since 1982, tumescent liposuction since 1996 and Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction since 1997 giving him over 25 years of liposuction experience. These state-of-the-art techniques are designed for the removal of unwanted fat cells that have accumulated in disproportionate amounts in certain areas of the body. This is certainly one of the most exciting advancements in cosmetic surgery.
We are born with a predetermined number of fat cells, which multiply until puberty and increase in size afterwards. When we gain weight each fat cell in our body gets bigger, and when we lose weight each cell shrinks. It is not surprising that many people find that despite the weight they lose, bulges or fat deposits remain in undesirable places. While liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, it is eminently effective in removing unwanted localized deposits of fat, which are genetically determined and cannot be lost by dieting or exercise. The following areas can be treated with Tumescent and Ultrasonic Liposuction: abdomen, back, flank, waist, love handles, hips, buttock, legs, ankles, arms, chest and breast.
Tumescent Liposuction ~ Women tend to carry their excess fat cells in their abdomen, arms, waist and hips and lateral thighs, men in their abdomen, chest and "love handles". Modern liposuction, utilizing the tumescent technique with or without ultrasound, removes unwanted body fat in a gentler manner and minimizes recovery time.
With liposuction, Dr. Dobson works between your skin and your muscle to remove excess fat cells. Tumescent fluid is injected into the fatty tissue between your skin and your muscle at the start of your procedure. This fluid contains medication designed to numb the area and to constrict the blood vessels. This will limit blood loss and reduce post-operative discomfort. The procedure also allows removal of larger amounts of fat. A "micro" cannula is then inserted into tiny, often inconspicuous incisions to remove the fat cells.

Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction ~ Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction or UAL actually emulsifies the fat cells thereby liquefying the cells meaning less trauma to the skin. We have seen better skin retraction, because it is less traumatic. Studies have shown that due to less trauma; the patient has a quicker recovery time. Ultrasonic uses sound waves to "liquefy" unwanted fat unlike lasers that burn the fat. UAL is an effective tool for removing fat from fibrous body areas, such as the male breasts or the back, or for removing larger volumes of fat in a single procedure. Dr. Dobson utilizes both the tumescent and the ultrasonic techniques together.
Tumescent and Ultrasonic is most often utilized together. One to numb, constrict blood vessels and expand the space we are working in and the other to liquefy that fat. Our website can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Ultimately, you and Dr. Dobson will determine whether UAL and/or traditional liposuction are best suited for you. Please ask if there is anything about the procedure you don't understand.
Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction: (back to top)
- Decreased post-operative swelling and bruising
- Better control of contour or shape of the body in the areas treated with liposuction
- Minimal problems with post-operative contour irregularity
- Relatively large volumes of fat may be removed with relatively little blood loss and minimal post-operative bruising
- Certain regions, such as the hip, posterior back and central body regions, may respond preferentially to UAL
Improved Body Contour(back to top)
Our patients experience an improved body contour and exciting new figure within twenty-four hours. Optimum results are obtained within one to four months. Body sculpturing is considered a contouring procedure. Age itself is not a determining factor, although the patient must be in good general health. The tumescent technique can be used on almost any place on the body.
Intended Results(back to top)
- A permanent improvement in the contour and proportion of the treated areas
- A more flattering figure and physique, in or out of clothing
- An improved self image
- Patients often see improved body contour and new figure within 24 hours
- Optimum results obtained within one to twelve months depending on the volume
Outpatient Treatment(back to top)
The procedure is performed in our outpatient surgical suite.
Recovery and Healing(back to top)
The patient wears a compression garment covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about six weeks as it helps with the contouring of the skin following surgery. Pain is usually quite moderate and is normally controlled with oral medication and/or an OnQ™ Pain Pump. Recovery time varies with each patient, primarily depending on the number of areas treated and the volume of fat removed. Patients will have minimal bruising due to the pre-op medications you will take. The final result takes shape over the following one to six months. Patients are able to go home the same day of the procedure and generally able to resume light activity the day after surgery. Patients usually recover and resume normal activities after approximately 4 to 7 days. While any surgical procedure carries certain risks, serious complications are uncommon with modern liposuction.
Maintain Your Shape(back to top)
After your procedure you will have fewer fat cells and your fat cells will be distributed more proportionately. By maintaining your weight you will be able to maintain your shape. The success of liposuction is attributed to the inability of fat cells to reproduce, the techniques utilized to remove the fat, compression that is worn post-op and the surgeon’s skill.
Modern Liposuction: Are You a Candidate?(back to top)
- If you have excess subcutaneous fat (under the skin) which is resistant to diet and exercise
- If you wish to change the contours of your body
- Improved techniques now allow removal of larger amounts of fat, allowing body sculpturing for heavier patients
